Beautiful autograph letter signed by General Hedouville on watermarked paper, headed with FREEDOM EQUALITY GENERAL in Chief of the army of England
Letter dated 12 Brumaire year 6 (1798). The general with the help of Bancelin who had one foot by the Chouans and the other among the Republicans was trying to limit the fighting to get a quick peace.
Appointed general of the army of the North in 1793 and then chief of staff of HOCHE, he commanded the army of England in 1798 and was appointed Governor of LINZ. He was recalled by BONAPARTE as Chief of the army of the West in 1799 before being appointed by BONAPARTE as Ambassador St Petersburg
In 1801 he was appointed chief of staff in Austria, Prussia and Poland until 1804. From 1804 to 1807, Napoleon appointed him Chief of general staff of JEROME BONAPARTE, when he returned, he was appointed Chamberlain of NAPOLEON and accompanied the Empress JOSEPHINE, in Strasbourg and Munich (12 x 18 cm)
