Laco Electric, with battery-operated electromechanical movement, circa 1963/4
Fantastically preserved gold-plated Laco Electric from 1963. This watch is very rare, especially in well-functioning condition.
Already in the mid to late 1960s, no watches of this kind are produced anymore (replacement by quartz watches). The electromechanical movement (a balance wheel is driven electrically) functions by means of an inserted button cell battery (see the battery compartment on the reverse side).
The electromechanical movement is introduced by Laco in Spring 1958 at the Hannover Trade Fair (prototype with calibre 860). The watch on offer contains the first series version, calibre 861. The watch runs after pressing in the back gear (coupling and decoupling of the gear train). Manual time adjustment by pulling and then turning the back gear.
Changing the battery is managed quickly because the battery compartment is easy to open.
The casing is in a nearly perfect or nearly mint condition. There are only few slight traces of wear on the entire casing and on the closed base. The watch can only be opened with a special tool through the plastic lens. Currently, the watch runs about 40 seconds ahead over the course of the day.
Strap length: 7 cm + 11.5 cm = 18.5 cm
The original plastic lens is free of scratches.
The bezel shows minor traces of wear.
The leather strap is new, not the original Laco
The buckle is not original Laco
Weight of the watch with strap: 35 g
Laco-electric calibre 861, contact-controlled (rear gear), jumping seconds-hand, 21,600 oscillations/h = 3Hz, 11 jewels, with standard battery (button cell V13 GA).
The current battery was inserted approx. 5 months ago. I don't know how long the battery lasts.
Closed steel base: original Laco, like new, minimal traces of wear.
Crown: original Laco, undamaged, clean
Diameter (without crown): 35 mm
Height (with glass, including battery compartment): 11.7 mm
Material: gold-plated steel
The dial is immaculate, minimal patina (with the magnifying glass, a slight patina is discernible), no stains, no damage.
All features of the timepiece work flawlessly.
Shipping without box. No documents.
A very rare watch, bridging technology.
Please note that the watch must be shaken briefly after changing the battery, so that the balance wheel starts to move.
