Japan, ca. 1880
The old lacquered wood altar with gilt-wood interior is detailed carved. It is in good condition for its age. Shows signs of aging. A rare, beautiful complete Japanese Buddhist shrine with original elements, casing and lock.
Amida is depicted in a standing position, cast in the front with drapery falling from the chest in u-shaped folds, the right hand raised in abhayamudra (no fear), the left hand lowered and the eyes downcast in a meditative expression all supported on a lotusthrone with petal lappets.

25 cm wide (open), 11 cm wide (closed), 27 cm high, depth 8 cm

Packed well and sent quickly. It is very nice. Listed as NOT Repaired, but is is repaired. There is a modern and home made hinge on it so that is kind of regrettable for such an expensive piece.
